What Is Clinical Counselling?

Clinical counselling is a regulated mental health profession focused on supporting individuals through emotional, psychological, and relational challenges. Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs) are credentialed by the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors and provide evidence-based care for a wide range of concerns, from anxiety and depression to trauma, grief, relationship strain, and life transitions.

At Crescent Moon Foundation, clinical counselling draws on multiple established frameworks: arts-informed therapy, narrative therapy, somatic approaches, and EMDR. Sessions are collaborative and tailored to the individual, not scripted or one-size-fits-all. Whether you are navigating a specific concern or seeking a deeper understanding of patterns that have held you back, counselling creates space for that work.

Common reasons people seek counselling include trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship difficulties, and the lasting effects of unresolved grief. Laurel Tien also works with clients pursuing ketamine-assisted integration therapy and clinical supervision for counsellors in training.

How We Approach Counselling at Crescent Moon Foundation

Laurel Tien, MA, PhD, RCC, RN brings a rare combination of academic, clinical, and nursing expertise to each session. Her training spans arts-informed therapy, narrative therapy, somatic approaches, and EMDR, with additional specialization in ketamine-assisted integration therapy. With a PhD from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) and over 30 years of nursing experience, she works at the intersection of body, mind, and meaning in a way few clinicians in the region are equipped to do.

Crescent Moon Foundation operates from The White Rock Counselling Coop, a collaborative practice setting in White Rock, BC. Associate counsellor Susan Worrall, MA brings 20+ years of experience working with women, families, and adults with developmental disabilities, with a warm and playfully grounded approach. Together, the practice holds space for clients who want clinical depth without a sterile, clinical feel.

Sessions are available in-person at 202-1548 Johnston Rd, White Rock, and via telehealth across BC.

Step 1: Discovery Call

Start with a free 15-minute discovery call with Laurel or Susan. This is an informal conversation, not an assessment. It helps you get a sense of the clinician's approach and confirm it feels like a good fit before committing to a full session.

Step 2: First Session

Your first session focuses on understanding your situation, history, and goals at a pace that feels comfortable. There is no pressure to disclose more than you are ready to share. Together, you will begin to shape what the work looks like.

Step 3: Ongoing Sessions

From there, sessions are typically 50 minutes and draw on whichever modalities are most relevant to your needs. The pace, depth, and direction of the work are shaped collaboratively over time.

What Clients Tend to Experience

Reduced anxiety and emotional reactivity. Many clients report greater capacity to manage stress and respond to difficult situations without feeling overwhelmed, typically within the first several sessions.

Improved clarity around patterns and relationships. Narrative and arts-informed approaches help clients see their stories from new angles, which often leads to meaningful shifts in how they relate to themselves and others.

Greater integration after trauma. For clients working through trauma or PTSD, the integration of EMDR and somatic approaches supports a gradual reduction in intrusive symptoms and a more grounded relationship with their own history.
