When Communication Breaks Down, Everything Feels Harder
Every couple hits rough patches. But when the same arguments keep cycling, when silence feels safer than honesty, or when you're living parallel lives under one roof, it can start to feel like the distance is permanent.
Maybe one of you is carrying grief, stress, or past trauma that's seeping into the relationship. Maybe an important transition, a new child, a loss, or a major life change has shifted things between you in ways that are hard to name. Or maybe there's nothing dramatic to point to, just a slow drift that's left you both feeling unseen and unheard.
Couples counselling isn't about proving who's right. It's about creating the space to finally understand each other, and to find a way forward that works for both of you.
What Is Couples Counselling?
Couples counselling is a form of therapy where both partners work with a trained clinical counsellor to explore the patterns, communication styles, and underlying dynamics shaping your relationship. Sessions are structured to give both voices equal space.
At Crescent Moon Foundation, we draw on narrative, somatic, and arts-informed approaches, which means we look beyond the surface-level conflict to understand the deeper stories and body-held experiences that are influencing how you show up with each other. This isn't one-size-fits-all therapy. It's tailored to your relationship.
Our Approach to Couples Counselling in White Rock
Laurel Tien, MA, PhD, RCC, RN, and Susan Worrall, RCC, bring over 30 years of experience and a rare dual background in clinical counselling and nursing to her work with couples. Her training in somatic approaches, EMDR, and narrative therapy means she can hold complexity, including trauma, anxiety, and patterns that run deeper than communication habits.
At Crescent Moon Foundation, couples sessions are:
- Trauma-aware, recognizing how past experiences shape present conflict
- Somatic and arts-informed, working with the whole person, not just the words
- Grounded in genuine curiosity about your unique relationship story
We work with couples in person at our White Rock and Surrey offices, and online across BC. Learn more about our team and approach.

Renewed connection: Counselling aids in rebuilding trust and intimacy, fostering a genuine sense of being on the same team and enhancing your emotional bond.
